SingTel has agreed to work with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) to develop and strengthen the nation's cyber security capabilities.

Under the agreement, the partners will work to build up local cyber security capabilities, seek to foster the development of more cyber security talent and co-develop R&D capabilities with universities and research institutes.

“We will leverage our assets and expertise to help enterprises understand and build cyber security capabilities,” SingTel Group Enterprise CEO Bill Chang commented.

“This includes the global capabilities of Trustwave, a leading managed security service provider, which we acquired. A resilient cyber security ecosystem will help reinforce Singapore’s position as a key business hub for innovation while building the foundation of a safe and smart nation.”

The collaboration builds on SingTel's existing cyber security initiatives, including the operation of a joint advanced security operations center (ASOC) in collaboration with FireEye.

Existing SingTel initiatives to build the cyber security talent pool include the launch this year of a scholarship program with Singapore Polytechnic and a partnership with the Economic Development Board of Singapore to hire and train engineers in the field.

The company is also using its acquisition of Trustwave to enable it to provide real-time managed security services to companies worldwide.
