SK Telecom has announced it will collaborate with vendors Samsung and LG Electronics to enable interoperability with the companies' respective smart home platforms.

Once implemented, SK Telecom smart home users will be able to control and monitor Samsung and LG's smart home equipment using the operator's own app.

SK Telecom and Samsung signed an agreement in April to ensure interoperability of their smart home platforms. The agreement will cover Samsung consumer electronic products including fridges, washing mashines, air purifiers, robot vacuum cleaners and ovens.

Last week SK Telecom entered a similar agreement with LG Electronics, signing the deal at IFA 2015 in Berlin.

“We have been making efforts to create an open ecosystem around our Smart Home platform to bring benefits to all stakeholders,” SK Telecom head of Smart Home TF Cho Young-hoon said.

“Cooperation with two global consumer electronics giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics is expected to take smart home to the next level, providing users with greater value and convenience.”

SK Telecom launched its smart home platform in May, and plans to introduce at least 20 compatible products this year and over 30 by 2016. The operator has so far entered smart home partnerships with over 25 companies in various industries.
