SiGe Semiconductor announced two new radio frequency (RF) front-end modules that support wireless multimedia services in portable devices like laptops and home access points.

The SE2547A and SE2548A modules measure 25 mm2 (about one-third the size of previous front-end modules) yet integrate components like power amplifiers, filtering, power detector, diversity switch, diplexers and associated matching circuitry.

The smaller footprint is aimed at providing greater throughput to support emerging applications such as media distribution throughout the home. These new modules can be used alone, or in stacked configurations to support multiple stream applications.

These new modules support 802.11a/b/g/n wireless LAN and will be available third quarter this year.
