A massive Smart Wi-Fi Municipal Area Network (MAN) is underway in Shenzhen, China’s fifth largest city.

Once completed, the wireless deployment, being undertaken by Ruckus Wireless and Shenzhen Topway Video Communication Co. Ltd. (Topway Video), would give Shenzhen residents and visitors free access to Wi-Fi in public service areas such as hospital waiting areas and the city’s high-speed railway station.

Subscribers to Topway Video’s cable service will also get more reliable Wi-Fi access in public venues for digital devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Topway Video is deploying Ruckus ZoneFlex indoor and outdoor Smart Wi-Fi access points (APs) in major retail stores, restaurants, hospitals, public transport stations, neighborhood communities, public streets and many other indoor and outdoor public venues throughout Shenzhen.

For carrier-class management, a Ruckus WLAN controller integrates Topway Video’s Wi-Fi traffic into cellular operators’ core networks, thereby providing multiple streaming solutions. Topway Video is also using a Ruckus intelligent analysis platform.

“Making use of the intelligent analysis of big data for network usage it provides, we have increased the efficiency of our network service, and optimized our deployment plans, effectively reducing our capex and personal costs,” said Fu Dali, general manager of Topway Video’s Broadband Division.
