Datacraft announced Tuesday that Taiwan's Fuhsing Private School has rolled out a multi-media video-on-demand (VOD) service.

The new service enables students, teacher, and parents to access video footage for lessons, teaching materials, speeches and other school activities via the Internet.

According to Datacraft, Fuhsing Private Schools provides education to students from kindergarten to high school. Designed and built by Datacraft, the VOD service is now available outside school hours to provide students with the opportunity of additional study. The varied content enables parents to follow more closely their children's progress in school and allows teachers to enjoy a closer level of communication with both parents and students, said Datacraft in a statement.

'The new VOD service has enhanced the learning experience for students outside the classroom, raised the level of involvement of parents in school affairs, and simplified the workload of our teachers,' said Ping Lin, IT Department Head at Fuhsing School.

'One important advantage of letting students use technology from an early age is that they are better prepared to maximize its potential during further education and later during their work life.'

Beyond the VOD service, Fuhsing School will develop a comprehensive e-Learning program that allows web sharing of files that can be downloaded to PCs, iPods and TVs. A further planned development is e-Portfolio, a website feature that enables students to upload project work online, where it can be edited, marked and archived for future reference.

Datacraft's solution consists of a video streaming link over a switched fast Ethernet network, backed by an expandable data storage system. Datacraft also managed all aspects of service implementation from network infrastructure planning, engineering and implementation.
