Taiwan's National Communications Commission has set aside a block of spectrum for use in operator small cell networks.
The regulator will assign the airwaves in the 5700-MHz to 6400-MHz bands as an unlicensed spectrum for small cell deployments, DigiTimessaid.
Use of the spectrum will be free for 4G operators, but they will first need to apply to the regulator before taking advantage of it, according to the report.
The NCC is also drafting up a standardized regulation for testing mobile phones for information security capabilities. The regulator plans to propose a draft version of the new regulation in mid-2015 and produce the final version by the end of the year.
Taiwanese operators are entering the LTE market for the first time after acquiring spectrum during last year's $4 billion auction.
The past few months have seen launches from Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone and Taiwan Star Cellular.
