India's Tata DoCoMo has completed an upgrade to its 3G network using equipment provided by Nokia.

As part of the project, the operator has implemented HSPA+ in the circles of Karnataka, Haryana and Punjab using Nokia Networks' single RAN technology.

The deal involved Nokia supplying HSPA+ base stations and base stations optimised for providing coverage in crowded areas, as well as a network management system and project management services.

“his initiative underlines TATA DoCoMo’s focus on further enhancing customer experience by bringing best in class solutions for mobile data consumers in India, Tata DoCoMo CTO Neeraj Dindore said.

“With its extensive knowledge about our infrastructure and expertise in executing similar deployments worldwide and more specifically in India, Nokia Networks was our natural choice for this project.”

Nokia estimates that India's 3G market grew 156% during 2013, with average consumption growing by 100MB to 532MB per month.

Tata DoCoMo recently introduced a prepaid offer allowing customers to maintain their unused data balance once they recharge with a new pack.
