Ruey-Bin Kao named CEO of Telstra Greater China

Australian incumbent carrier Telstra has appointed Dr. Ruey-Bin Kao as CEO of Telstra Greater China. In his new role, Kao is responsible for developing Telstra’s integrated service capabilities and identifying strategic areas to help grow the business in the rapidly-evolving Greater China market.

Kao joined Telstra from Applied Materials, where he served most recently as China country president. Prior to that, Kao was managing director and vice president of enterprise business at Hewlett Packard China.

Before joining HP China, Kao was chairman and president at Motorola China, where he worked for 17 years and was credited with significantly expanding Motorola’s presence in China with the development of manufacturing, R&D and other internal and external services.

Telenor appoints Morten Karlsen Sorby as Uninor CEO

Norwegian telecom service provider Telenor has named Morten Karlsen Sorby as the new chief executive officer of its Indian telecom arm Uninor with immediate effect.

Morten Karlsen Sørby replaces Sigve Brekke, who has served as interim CEO of Uninor since early November last year. Brekke will continue on in his role as EVP and head of Telenor Group’s Asia operations.

“Uninor enjoys a firm market position in India as a leading mass-market, best-on-value operator. When Morten Karlsen Sørby now steps into the role as CEO of Uninor, he will meet an organization that is highly energized, market-savvy and possesses a tremendous innovative spirit,” said Jon Fredrik Baksaas, president and CEO of Telenor Group.

“Morten’s vast experience from the global mobile industry and solid leadership skills will inject new energy and further insights into the already empowered Uninor team.”
