Telenor Pakistan has announced the launch of Pakistan's first LTE-Advanced network with the deployment of carrier aggregation (CA) technology in four cities.

The company's new 4.5G network has been rolled out in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The new capabilities have been automatically extended to its customers with smartphones capable of supporting LTE-Advanced.

In 2016, Telenor Pakistan acquired 850-MHz spectrum to provide 4G services, and has also refarmed its existing 1800-MHz spectrum for LTE. The new deployment uses carrier aggregation to combine the spectrum across these bands.

In a new milestone today, we have launched 4.5G that will be a bridge for future mobile data “applications leading on to 5G. The technology will enable us to provide faster upload and download speeds while delivering superior user experience by ensuring immediate reaction time for applications and web services with the promise of uninterrupted data experience,” Telenor Pakistan CEO Irfan Wahab Khan said.

“4.5G will also give us the readiness we need to drive the development of IoT and tech-based solutions for government, administration, health, agriculture and home management.”
