Indonesia's largest mobile operator Telkomsel has awarded Syniverse a multi-year contract to provide 4G roaming and signaling connectivity in 44 countries.

Telin sister company Telkomsel will use Syniverse's IPX network to be able to offer seamless LTE roaming to its more than 120 million subscribers.

The Syniverse IPX network covers more than 2,000 LTE routes, allowing customers to offer LTE roaming through around 270 operators in 44 countries.

Indonesia is expected to be a critical market for LTE roaming in the next few years, according to estimates from GSMA Intelligence.

“Collaboration with Syniverse has strengthened Telin’s capability in delivering LTE roaming services to customers,” Telin director of marketing and sales Natigor Sitorus said.

“In addition to the increased capability in infrastructure and footprint, the agreement will also enhance Telin’s portfolio in the business sector by providing an interoperable and versatile network.”

The announcement came the day after Syniverse revealed it had secured a deal to offer VoLTE roaming between the LG U+ network in South Korea and the SmarTone network in Hong Kong.
