Australia's Telstra has entered an exclusive telco partnership with open source hardware and software ecosystem Arduino aimed at fueling the growth of IoT in the market.

The operator has arranged to release Arduino's latest IoT developer board in Australia. The board supports NB-IoT and LTE Cat M1 IoT networks, and is designed to enable the development, trial ad deployment of cellular connected devices.

Telstra plans to use its Cat M1 and NB-IoT networks to support the launch of the developer board and stimulate the development of IoT solutions for the Australian and international markets.

Telstra's Cat M1 network spans over three million square kilometers, and its NB-IoT network offers coverage major Australian cities and a number of regional towns.

Arduino's open source ecosystem has more than 30 million users worldwide. The organization designs and manufactures single-board microcontrollers and microcontroller kits for building IoT devices.

Telstra plans to make the new board available for purchase via the Telstra Developer Portal early next year. The purchase price will include a Telstra M2M SIM.
