Telstra has unveiled a series of IoT-based location products for consumers and businesses using its extensive Cat-M1 and Narrowband IoT networks.

The new products include the Telstra Locator service that will help consumers tag and find lost valuables such as keys, bikes and family parents.

The locator service uses a lightweight Bluetooth tag for keys and purses, as well as a rechargeable Wi-Fi tag designed for pets, bikes and bags.

A subscription-based service, Telstra Locator will launch later this year for consumer and SMB postpaid mobile customers. Next year Telstra plans to expand the offering with a premium LTE tag for high value assets such as vehicles and machinery.

The Telstra Device Locator will meanwhile help find lost phones and tablets, allowing location services for both Android and iOS devices over a single screen.

Finally, Track and Monitor will be a low-cost large-volume business asset management solution for enterprise customers, designed for asset tracking across multiple warehouses or retail sites, or while in transit.

“We’ve already deployed the most advanced IoT technology on our mobile network, we’re now focused on harnessing IoT technology to introduce services that make customers’ connected lives easier,” Telstra head of innovation and strategy Michele Garra said.

“Telstra’s new Location of Things products use connected technology to solve everyday problems for Australians – from families and local businesses through to our country’s largest enterprises.”
