Telstra using Cisco software for SDN, NFV products

While the news over at Cisco has been about cloud-related technology acquisitions, yesterday they were part of an interesting APAC announcement down under. Telstra is using Cisco's software platform to bring SDN and NFV powered products to market.

Of course, Telstra bought Pacnet about a year ago and quickly started investing in an expansion of its early SDN-powered PEN network. In yesterday's announcement, they took it up another notch by adding network functions virtualization to the mix.

In addition to adding more Australian nodes to PEN's data center interconnect capabilities, Telstra expects to officially roll out software-driven IP VPN and Cloud Gateway Protection.

Other products will likely follow from the initial platform as 2016 continues. The initiative was apparently a team effort between Cisco and Telstra.
