New Zealand operator TelstraClear has abandoned its MVNO agreement with Telecom NZ in favor of a new agreement with Vodafone NZ.

TelstraClear will offer 2G and 3G services on Vodafone\'s new network, the company said.

TelstraClear spokesperson Chris Mirams told TelecomAsia.net the company made the switch because Telecom would not allow the company to offer services via its new XT mobile network.

"Our agreement ensures TelstraClear will have total control over our plans, handset range, customer base and international roaming," TelstraClear CEO Allan Freeth said.

TelstraClear, the New Zealand subsidiary of Australian incumbent Telstra, leased mobile capacity from Vodafone network until 2007, when a disagreement over its plan to build its own mobile network broke up the partnership.

It continues to operate a small 2G CDMA network and also offers broadband services across New Zealand.
