Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has partnered with Rohde & Schwarz and StreamSpark to ensure digital TV receivers comply with DVB-T2 standards.

The partnership will go a long way to help NBTC roll out DVB-T2 ahead of other countries in Southeast Asia, plus enable HD content to be transmitted smoothly over DVB-T2 networks in major cities such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

According to NBTC, receiver testing is critical for a successful digital TV switchover. The Thai government has provided coupons worth 690 baht ($20.30) each for Thais to buy NBTC-certified receivers. The NBTC will also guarantee the quality and performance of each receiver to ensure a smooth consumer rollout.

All receiver products – including those imported into Thailand – such as set-top boxes, USB dongles, tablets and smartphones with built-in DVB-T2 receivers will be tested by NBTC before they can be sold.
