Texas Instruments' NaviLink 6.0 chip combines GPS, Bluetooth and FM receive/transmit capabilities in a single device.

Users with NaviLink 6.0-equipped handsets will be able to simultaneously navigate, use a Bluetooth-enabled headset, and transmit an MP3 file to the car radio using the FM transmit capability.

The third-generation Navilink 6.0 single chip is designed for handsets with GPS capabilities addressing large and mid-tier markets, the chip maker said.

This latest chip also reduces power consumption by up to 50 percent over previous assisted GPS or A-GPS chips, the company said.

With Navilink 6.0, TI hopes to drive usage of GPS-based applications such as 3-D mapping, location-based services, and safety services.

TI expects handsets running on NaviLink 6.0 to be on the market by the second half of 2009.
