Trimble's 5800 GPS system is designed for a variety of survey, construction, civil engineering, and asset management applications, the company said.

The 5800 combines a GPS receiver, antenna, UHF radio, Bluetooth, and a power source into a single unit weighing approximately 1.21 kilograms.

It can be configured as a GPS base or rover; as a rover, the cable-free 3.5 kilogram GPS system comprises a lightweight pole, controller, holder, and batteries.

The receiver has 2Mb of internal memory for data collection in both static and real-time kinematic (RTK) surveying modes.

The 5800 is also environmentally rated to IP67 standards, is submersible to a depth of 1 meter, and can withstand a drop of up to 2 meters on to a hard surface, according to Trimble.
