Backup and disaster recovery company Veeam Software has purchased AWS cloud-native backup solution provider N2WS for $42.5 million.

N2WS, an IaaS data protection company, will continue to operate as a standalone entity post-acquisition.

The deal will give Veeam Software access to N2WS technology and R&D to allow the company to integrate data protection for AWS workloads into the Veeam Availability Platform.

N2WS will in turn gain access to Veeam’s ecosystem of alliances and partners, including nearly 55,000 resellers and 18,000 Veeam Cloud Service Providers.

Gartner projects that the IaaS market is on track to reach $88 billion in 2022, making it the fastest growing segment of the cloud market. AWS is meanwhile the leading IaaS vendor with an estimated 44.2% of the market.

Veeam VP for Asia-Pacific in Japan Effendy Ibrahim said the acquisition will further stimulate the company's solid growth in the region, including in Hong Kong.

“Asia reported a YoY growth for total bookings of 41%, with our partner base growing to 5,859. The acquisition of N2WS is a gamechanger for Veeam in the Public Cloud space, and will only help to further increase these impressive FY17 results,” he said.

“Customers in Asia are continuing to accelerate their Public Cloud service adoption for the appropriate services and workloads. Veeam now have the capabilities to truly differentiate itself in the Asian marketplace through offering a risk managed approach to protecting, managing, recovering and making available native based services.”
