Vodafone India is making a play to become the third largest operator in the Indian enterprise services business.

The company's director for Vodafone Business Services Naveen Chopra told the Press Trust of India that it seeks to take the number three spot in the current financial year.

Vodafone India, traditionally a mobile-only operator, has launched fixed-line services and added more enterprise-focused products to its mobility portfolio as part of its growth ambitions.

The operator is offering enterprise services across four business segments – multinational companies, large enterprises, SMBs and government.

At present India's enterprise telecom market is dominated by Bharti Airtel, state-owned BSNL and Reliance Communications.

Vodafone India needs to build scale to succeed in the enterprise market, Chopra said. At present the company has some kind of enterprise presence in around 250 cities, or some 85% of the market.

The operator has some 65,000 enterprise customers, and income from the segment accounts for around 12% of its total revenue.
