A 3G broadband service is being introduced in New Zealand by mobile operator Vodafone, enabling subscribers to access to the Internet at increased broadband speeds while on the move.

The operator said the service will provide speeds faster than conventional broadband services, and claimed it will become the preferred way for users to get online access to the Internet and business applications.

Vodafone will provide super-fast 3G broadband speeds via an upgrade to its 3G network which it introduced last year, from 1 October 2006, providing speeds of up to 3.6Mbps in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.

It will offer an average performance of 800kb/s to 1.4Mbps, and HSDPA will be available in other areas with 3G coverage, operating at under 1Mbps to begin with.
