It has been a busy week for the IPX sector already, with the inauguration of a new Asian exchange, new peering partnerships in the region and the launch of an upgraded IPX platform.

XConnect and Extol, a Malaysian and Indonesian ICT services provider, have this week launched the Asian Interconnect Exchange (AIX) in Malaysia.

AIX is designed to give local and regional service providers cost-effective access to IP interconnect services in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The AIX hub allows the interworking of voice as well as IP services including HD voice, video and unified communications.

XConnect already offers similar IP hubs in Germany (in partnership with DE-CIX) the US and Hong Kong.

Separately, Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) has entered deals with Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom and Japan's NTT Com to establish multiservice IPX peering connections.

HGC has also entered a memorandum of understanding on IPX platform interconnection with the UAE's Etisalat.

The IPX peering arrangements will use the Hutch-IPX platform, which launched in July 2012. Hutch-IPX is based on MPLS technology and allows for IP interconnect services including 2G, 3G and 4G data roaming, VoIP and HD voice and video.

“We are excited to interconnect with operators of the stature of Chunghwa, NTT Com and Etisalat,” HGC president of international and carrier business Andrew Kwok commented.
