ZTE nearly doubled its profit for 2014, partly on the back of strong 4G network equipment and smartphone sales.

The vendor reported a 94% increase in net profit to 2.63 billion yuan ($423.5 million). Revenue grew 8.3% to 81.47 billion yuan.

Revenue from international operations reached 40.89 billion yuan, or 50.2% of revenue, while the company's Chinese operations contributed 40.58 billion yuan.

ZTE boasted that it was the fastest-growing 4G vendor globally in 2014 and consolidated its leadership in China's 4G market.

The company also grew its market share in the optical transport networks segment and maintained its lead in PTN and EPON products.

Looking ahead to 2015, ZTE warned that growth in the traditional telecom market is facing a bottleneck, but that carriers are also transitioning to internet services, while demanding network optimization services to improve capacity and performance.

ZTE is also pursuing diversifying its enterprise ICT portfolio to cover RCS, cloud services and smart cities to help customers navigate the “Industry 4.0” transformation.
