The preliminary card of Bellator 290 throws up an interesting match between former title contender Colombian Alejandra Lara and undefeated Diana Avsaragova in the Flyweight division. Winning three of her three fights since joining Bellator, undefeated Russian Avsaragova will face her toughest test so far in her fledgling MMA career when she gets into the cage this Saturday at Kia Forum, Inglewood, California. Although the Russian’s opponent is on a losing skid, Lara is a tough prospect who also had a meteoric rise in MMA before her recent slump in form.

Number ten in the BMMA Flyweight rankings, Lara turned pro in 2011 and joined Bellator in 2017. Before joining the American promotion, she had racked up several wins, and including her BMMA debut win. She was 7-1 when she challenged for the BMMA women’s Flyweight championship against then-champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane in 2018. She lost that bout and since then has been up and down in her performances currently 2-4 since her failed title shot. She will face Diana Avsaragova on the back of a three-fight losing skid.

Diana Avsaragova
The 24-year-old Russian born in North Ossetia transitioned from freestyle wrestling to mixed martial arts, making her debut in 2017. Since then she has been 5-0 in MMA and 3-0 in BMMA. Her Bellator debut in April 2021 lasted 29 seconds before she knocked out Tara Graff. Her last fight in March 2022 was a unanimous decision win over Kyra Batara. “Pantera” won bronze at the Russian freestyle wrestling championship in 2014 and 2015 among girls in the class up to 60kg.
