For the second time in his career, Brandon Royval would step in as a replacement for Brando Moreno’s original opponent when they rematch in a flyweight bout on the main event of UFC Fight Night 237. Royval lost to Moreno in their first fight in November 2020 via a first-round TKO. Now a two-time former flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno headlines UFC Mexico City in his first fight since losing the flyweight title to Alexandre Pantoja last July. Moreno, Mexico’s first UFC champion, is a huge favorite ahead of the clash with American Brandon Royval who lost to Pantoja last December in a bid for the 125 pounds gold.

The 30-year-old lost the UFC flyweight title to nemesis Alexandre Pantoja via a split decision last year. While many felt that “The Assassin Baby” should have retained his title, the Mexican lost for the second time in his last four. He had earlier dropped a decision and the title to Deiveson Figueiredo before regaining it in a rematch in January 2023. Moreno debuted in the UFC in 2016 and has become one of the most accomplished flyweights in the promotion. Primarily a grappler, Moreno’s last two wins have come from TKO’s.
