According to the Daily Mail newspaper, part of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) employees together with the current head of the organization, Aleksander Ceferin, want to make changes to the statutes of the union.

It is reported that these amendments aim to extend Ceferin's presidency of UEFA until 2031. They will be put to a vote of all 55 UEFA member countries at the upcoming 48th Congress in Paris on February 8, 2024.

The 56-year-old Slovenian lawyer became president of the union in September 2016. On April 5, Ceferin was re-elected unopposed, with his term expiring in 2027.

On December 4, in an interview with Belgian channel RTBF, Ceferin called the experience of hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar in winter a failure, because it created an overload in the match schedule.
