A journalist from The Guardian has called on Man City and United to remove ships from their logos because of associations with slave trade.
British journalist Simon Hattenstone of The Guardian wrote an article about the history of the emblems of the Manchester United and City teams.
Hattenstone noted that their emblems depict a three-masted ship, which is also featured in the Manchester coat of arms. Note that in the XVIII century the city was considered one of slave trade centers, and the ships on the logos of the clubs are there since the date of their foundation.
The journalist called to replace the ship on the emblem of the city with a bee, representing the humanity of Mancunians. He called the image of the ship "a crime against humanity".
Man City are the reigning English champions and sit second in the EPL standings with 70 points. Man United is in third place with 59 points.
