Croatia's 37-year-old midfielder Luka Modrić spoke out about the 0-3 loss to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup semifinal match in Qatar and accused the referee of a wrongly awarded penalty.

What bothers me most is the first goal. In my opinion, there was no penalty. The referee should have awarded a corner kick in our favor, but he didn't, and then he awarded a non-existent penalty. It ruined the game.

Luka Modrić, quoted by Sportske Novosti

According to the 37-year-old midfielder, Croatia controlled the game until Lionel Messi's goal from the penalty spot and didn't allow the opponent to create dangerous moments near their net.

Argentina advanced to the final, where they will play the winner of the France vs Morocco, while the Croats will play the loser of the second semifinal in the match for third place. The consolation final will be held on December 17, while the decisive match at the Lusail Iconic Stadium will take place on December 18 at 18:00 GMT+3.
