Portuguese defender Pepe scored against Switzerland in the round of 16 of World Cup 2022. The Porto player broke several records in today's match.
Pepe became the oldest field player participating in the World Cup play-offs (39 years, 9 months and 10 days). He surpassed Dani Alves, who played earlier in the round of 16 of the tournament against South Korea.
Thus, Pepe also became the oldest player to score a goal in the World Cup playoffs, and the oldest scorer in the history of the Portuguese national team.
The defender became the second oldest player to score at the 2022 World Cup. He is surpassed only by Roger Milla of Cameroon, who scored the goal at the 1994 World Cup when he was 42.
