UFC CEO Dana White has spoken out regarding the organization of a fight between heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.
Forbes quotes White as saying:
The Stipe fight has to happen. You know, both of those guys deserve it. Jon – you've got the greatest mixed martial artist of all time versus the greatest heavyweight of all time. And they've paid their dues. They've done the thing. These two wanna fight each other. It's going to happen. Whoever wins, we'll see what they decide to do after that, and we'll go from there.
Jones and Miocic were scheduled to meet in the main event of UFC 295, but shortly before the tournament, Jon suffered a shoulder injury and withdrew from the fight. The reigning champion will not be able to fight for at least eight months. He has 27 wins and one loss on his record.
Miocic last fought in March 2021 against Francis Ngannou at UFC 260. That fight was stopped in the second round and ended in a knockout loss for Stipe. He has 20 wins and four losses on his record.
Jones last stepped into the octagon against Ciryl Gane in March 2023 at UFC 285. In this confrontation, Johns won by first-round submission and won the heavyweight championship belt. He has 27 wins and one loss on his record.
