The Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) has imposed a fine of 1.35 million euros on Twitter International Unlimited Company advertising gambling games in Italy.

Agcom reported nine separate violations, each linked to different accounts on the platform, all of which bore the platform’s blue verified badge, indicating official content.

During the investigation, Twitter deleted seven accounts and blocked access to two others following AGCM's directive. The agency also instructed the removal of similar content to prevent further violations.

Italy has been actively cracking down on sports betting ads. Major platforms, including YouTube, Google, Twitch, and Meta, have faced substantial fines for breaching advertising regulations.

Despite the legality of betting activities, Italian authorities closely monitor betting ads on Twitter, YouTube, Meta, and other platforms to protect consumers and prevent issues related to excessive gambling behaviors.
