The start of the 2022 championship does not yet promise any improvement for the Tigers over the previous season. The 2021 championship, Detroit's first under manager A.J. Hinch, finished with a 77-85 record. The Tigers approach the series opener with the Yankees at 4-5. Tyler Alexander will pitch for the Tigers in the first game against the Yankees. The 27-year-old pitcher made his new championship debut against the Red Sox (3-5), allowing five hits and three runs in 5.1 innings.
Yankees slump at bat
Aaron Boone's team is off to one of the best defenses in the MLB in the 2022 championship, with the Yankees allowing just 2.9 runs on average per game. Only the San Francisco Cubs, New York Mets, and LA Dodgers have better numbers. However, consistently beating the Yankees have so far been hampered by the weakness of the bat, which is odd given the super lineup of batters. 3.0 innings - only Arizona and Baltimore have scored less.
It was to Baltimore that the Yankees unexpectedly lost on the road to Detroit (1-2, 5-2, 0-5). Before that, however, the New York Yankees had two other good division games - at home against Boston (6-5, 4-2, 3-4) and at home against Toronto (0-3, 4-0, 4-6, 3-0).
New York's starting pitcher for the first game in Detroit is Gerrit Cole himself. So far this season, the 31-year-old superstar has not been doing particularly well. In two games, Cole has six strikeouts in 9.2 innings against Boston (6-5) and Toronto (4-6).
Expert Betting Tips
The Yankees have big problems at bat at the start of the championship. Detroit, on the other hand, are not so bad defensively and are probably capable of giving the "evil empire" a lot of trouble - after all, the Tigers somehow beat the Yankees in all games on their home field last season. On the other hand, Gerrit Cole is pitching for New York, who hasn't fared well in his first two starts, so the possibility of a successful third start for the legendary pitcher is high. Well, a lot of things point to an overall Total Under here.
