Derek Chisora vs Joseph Parker: The fight won’t last long

A very cool boxing night with the main event Derek Chisora vs Joseph Parker will take place on the evening of May 1st in Manchester, UK.

The 37-year-old Chisora is still very cool. This boxer has been through a huge number of wars (both in the ring and in the media space), but he’s not going to stop. He has a record of insane conflicts and fights with the top heavyweights: Dillian Whyte, Kubrat Pulev, Tyson Fury, David Haye, Vitali Klitschko.

His record so far is 32 wins, 23 of them by KOs and 10 defeats. In his last fight(October 31, 2020), Chisora lost to Alexander Usik by the judges’ decision.

Since 2018, since Parker’s first loss, Chisora has had one more fight than Joseph, and the fights themselves have been several times brighter. Derek’s late statistics look as follows:

• Takam’s knockout;
• Knockout from Whyte;
• Victory by unanimous decision over Gashi;
• Two consecutive knockouts against Price and Stiletto. The second was brutal;
• Defeat against Usik.

Dillian Whyte explained the situation around Chisora and mentioned Parker at the same time:

Fighters challenging Chisora think it’s going to be an easy fight, but then he comes out and surprises a lot of people. Parker hasn’t been the same since the fight with me, and he hasn’t fought top contenders. I beat him with a broken rib and arm and a severe chest organ infection. I chased him around the ring. Parker is a young guy, he’s tough, he has punch, but Joseph doesn’t seem to have much drive anymore. When Chisora is motivated, when his head and training are right, he can be a problem for any fighter.

Parker is on a streak of four straight wins, three of them ahead of time. Joseph Parker didn’t look very convincing in his last fight, but he’s still no doubt about beating Chisora. Though he treats him with respect:

I think it’s the right time to fight Chisora. He still has a big name, he’s been in boxing for a long time, a very experienced fighter, now after a loss and some good wins. He didn’t have such a bad loss in his last fight, he wasn’t knocked out, but on the contrary, he performed well. He pressed, threw a lot of punches, didn’t give up. I think it was a good fight. Derek can always give something unbelievable, but I don’t think he can do it in our fight.

According to most experts, Parker is the favorite here - he’s tougher, younger, more technical. He may well overpower a tired Derek in the second half of the fight, who was overpowered even by Usik. But Chisora should not be discounted either. It may be hard for him to box at the same pace for the whole fight, but he can also knock him out.
