Olympiakos vs Panathinaikos Prediction: Bad timing for the biggest derby for Olympiakos

In the first round of the playoff in the Creece championship group we will see the biggest derby in Greece as Olympiakos welcomes Panathinaikos. It’s needless to say that points are very important for both teams in the race title, but Olympiakos enters into this match after a heavy defeat in the Conference league against Maccabi Tel Aviv 4:1. Panathinaikos have 4 points less than the leader PAOK and Olympiakos 3, so the fight for points, pride and glory in this match will be spectacular.

Olympiakos surprisingly were heavily defeated in the first match of the round of 16 in the UEFA Conference league in this stadium 4:1 against Maccabi Tel Aviv. In the league, they are in 3rd place and have 3 points less than PAOK and only a point more than Panathinaikos. They were on an amazing run of 7 wins in 7 matches before this defeat, and it will be interesting to see how the team will react and perform in the biggest derby in Greece. Their manager Mendilibar was very disappointed after the defeat and before this match, he promised the fans that all the team will give 100% to win against Panathinaikos.

Panathinaikos also don’t have much reason to celebrate as they dropped to 4th place because they drew several matches that they should have won easily. In the last round, they played a draw against OFI Crete 2:2 and now will try to make up with a win against their biggest rival. In the away matches they are not doing well recently, they have 2 wins, 2 draws, and a defeat and it might not be good enough in the end to win the title.

Unfortunately, the last match between these teams in this stadium was interrupted due to incidents in the stands. Now the stadium is sold out once again and we hope that football will be at the center of attention. Panathinaikos won at home in the last match 2:0, and it’s a motive plus for Olympiakos to win at home and maybe move up the table closer to first place. The match in the Conference League will leave a mark and I think that Olympiakos will play more offensively and aggressively to win and get all 3 points. However, I expect spectacular derby with many goals and possibly a draw at the end.
