Buffalo is disappointing in the current regular season. A young and mischievous team that was incredibly close to making the playoffs the year before, now had to take another small step in their development to finally make it to the cup battles. In reality, we are seeing a very different picture. They have seriously lost momentum compared to last year's results, and are therefore far from the top 8. In the last five meetings they have beaten only Los Angeles and Minnesota - 7:0 and 3:2, respectively, with losses to Dallas - 1:2, St. Louis - 1-3, Florida - 0:4, leaving the Yellow and Blue in 13th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

From Anaheim this season, the fight for cup places was not expected, probably, even the most loyal fans of the team. The Californians still don't have any big stars capable of leading the entire team on their shoulders, as the leaders of the old days have long since left the club, and the new stars are still too young to solve big problems. That said, the Ducks had a good regular season debut, but things have gradually gone downhill. In the last four games, they have only one win, beating Ottawa 5:1, with losses to Edmonton 3:5, Montreal 0:5, and Toronto 2:9, leaving them in 14th place in the Western Conference standings.

Buffalo and Anaheim last season were opponents of different levels, but now their tournament position is very similar: Blades are on the 13th place in the Eastern Conference, and the Ducks are on the 14th place in the Western Conference. At the same time, the Yellow and Blue still have a noticeably higher level of roster and ambition, but for a long time they were haunted by injuries to their leading players, so they were unable to show their previous results.

Buffalo and Anaheim rarely meet each other, as they are located in different conferences. However, all of their recent head-to-head meetings have been so fun and productive that I'd like to see more of them. The Blades and Ducks have scored 25 goals (8.33 average per game) in their three previous meetings, and Don Granato's men have been particularly productive on offence, scoring 17 goals in that stretch (5.67 average per game).
