Nashville and Tampa Bay battled through two periods of 1:1, with the Predators answering Nikita Kucherov's goal with one from Ryan O'Reilly. But the third period was a six-goal affair. Nashville led 2:1, conceded, again compared to 3:3, but eventually lost 3:5. The debut game of the Predators for the new head coach, Andrew Brunette, was unsuccessful.

Since this season, Nashville has had a new coach and general manager, who won the Stanley Cup with Washington, Barry Trotz.
