Azat Maksum has fought his entire career in the Kazakhstani leagues, but he traveled to Brave CF for two fights, where he won both times by knockout. 

His impeccable resume did not go unnoticed by UFC matchmakers. He was also given a tough Tyson Nam in a take-it-or-leave-it situation for his first fight in the premier division. The fight was very close, but Maksum was more active and made more punches than his opponent, and the judges gave him the victory by split decision.
