Daria Kasatkina vs Sorana Cirstea Prediction: Sorana Cirstea is not convincing enough!

Daria Kasatkina and Sorana Cirstea go head-to-head in the quarterfinals of the WTA Abu Dhabi tournament. Both players were put in top performance until this stage, as they won the last 2 rounds. And on the head-to-head record, both players are meeting for the third time in their career. Their last meeting was at the French Open in 2021 and Sorana Cirstea won that game. But a lot has changed since then as Daria Kasatkina currently sits in a better position on the WTA ranking compared to Sorana Cirstea.

The 26-year old Russian player currently ranks 14th on the WTA ranking. She currently has 6 singles titles to her name after winning her last trophy at the WTA San Jose back in 2022. She also made it to the WTA Adelaide final last month, but unfortunately she lost the match to Jelena Ostapenko. Daria Kasatkina also played in the Australian Open and failed to make it past the round of 64, as she lost to Sloane Stephens. 

Currently, in the WTA Abu Dhabi, she has won her first 2 games. She defeated Diane Perry in the Round of 32 by 6:4,5:7,6:4 score. And then she faced Ashlyn Krueger in the Round of 16 and she won in straight sets by a 6:3,7:5 score. 

Sorana Cirstea is a Romanian tennis player who is currently ranked 26th on the WTA ranking. Sorana Cirstea has 2 singles titles which were the WTA Istanbul in 2021 and WTA Tashkent back in 2008. Sorana had also been to the final 4 times throughout her career and the most recent was in Strasbourg back in 2021. And in the Australian Open 2024, she failed to make it past the 128th round as she was knocked out by Yafan Wang.

Sorana Cirstea has also been excellent in the Abu Dhabi tournament. She won her first game against Caroline Garcia in 3 sets, beating her 7:6,4:6,4:6. And in her next game, she faced Maria Sakkari and she won in straight sets, beating her 6:2,6:1.

Daria Kasatkina and Sorana Cirstea have played against each other twice. Daria Kasatkina won the first meeting in Madrid back in 2018, and then Sorana Cirstea won the second meeting in the French Open in 2021.

Daria Kasatkina stands a better chance of getting into the semifinals stage. She is regarded as a favorite for obvious reasons and she is one of the favorites to lift the trophy. Sorana has been fantastic so far but her ability in this stage and against a stronger opponent raises a lot of questions.
