Fabio Fognini vs Aslan Karatsev Prediction: Betting on a Long Match

The first opponent of Aslan Karatsev, No. 38, will be Italian Fabio Fognini, No. 60. The players have not yet encountered each other in the tour, and bookmakers consider Aslan a slight favorite.

Fognini was active on hard courts after the end of the ground part of the season. He played three matches in Montreal, where he qualified, but dropped out after the first game in the main draw from Rune. In Cincinnati, the Italian made it to the last 32, knocking out Ramos but then losing in three sets to Rublev. In Winston-Salem, he did not have to play qualification as he won over Lajovic and fell to Draper.

Frankly speaking, it's unclear why bookmakers put Aslan as a favorite for the upcoming game. Maybe because of the higher rating. Karatsev is not doing well right now. He played only four matches on the court after the clay part of the season, winning only one against Nakashima, losing to Ymer in Washington, Cressy in Montreal, and Schwartzman in Cincinnati. In general, this year, Karatsev is struggling. The only thing we expect from him is a fight. Aslan is not going to give up the victory for nothing. 

Our first option is the total, and we consider that the opponents are about equal in strength at the moment, so we expect a hard match. It is unlikely that someone will be able to beat his opponent in three sets. We will not be surprised if the battle drags on for five games. As for the outcome, we are more inclined to side with the Italian. Fabio had better playing practice, tonus, and spirit.
