France

France has won the Davis Cup Finals eleven times, with Great Britain coming in third behind the United States and Australia. Last year, Lucas Pouille and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga were part of a surprise squad that narrowly defeated Belgium in a doubles showdown. Former world number seven Richard Gasquet played with Pierre-Hugues Herbert that day, and the veteran may make the difference in a solid, well-balanced squad that lacked any top-40 players. Adrian Mannarino, world number 47, just won the Winston-Salem Open, but he is likely to be the backup option to world number 53 Benjamin Bonzi, who has had a breakout season this year with more consistent consistency.

.

Germany

Germany has won the Davis Cup Finals three times, twice as West Germany and once as a unified nation in 1993. The absence of Alexander Zverev leaves them without a first-round option this week, but Oscar Otte, world number 52, could be a serious secret weapon after performing admirably at German tournaments this season, reaching the semi-finals in Munich, Stuttgart, and Halle on his way to a career-high ATP world ranking of 36th this summer.

The Germans could benefit greatly from a home tie in Hamburg, and the second option, Jan-Lennard Struff, is a terrific clay player capable of reaching greater heights than his present ranking of 132nd implies. Yannick Hanfmann, Germany's third option, is similarly at his best on clay, and their doubles pair of Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz is one of the strongest and most experienced in the field.

Expert Betting Tips

This could be an exciting Davis Cup Finals tie between two evenly matched teams capable of winning. With no obvious superstars among them, this tie should come down to individual form, which presently favors France, and home advantage, which balances things out for Germany. Oscar Otte is expected to have a good week here after losing to two of the three eventual champions in the semi-finals of German events this season, as well as world number one Daniil Medvedev in the other. France appears to have a well-balanced squad, but Hamburg should assist the Germans cross the finish line.
