Gilles Simon

Gilles Simon, a 2012 semifinalist, has had a quiet season so far, but the 37-year-old is concluding the year in style. The Frenchman, who had only won consecutive matches once at the French Open this year, has advanced to the third round of the Paris Masters with two exciting three-set triumphs.

Simon fought back from a set down to defeat Andy Murray in the first round on Tuesday, and then defeated ninth seed Taylor Fritz in three sets on Wednesday.

While it took the wild card two hours and 51 minutes to knock off the Scot in the first round, it took him three hours and seven minutes to knock off the American on Wednesday.

Simon, a 14-time tour-level champion, converted 4 of 11 break points and saved 6 of 9 to defeat the world number one. After each player had won a set, the World No. 188 gained the lone break in the last set to keep his chances alive.

The 37-year-old now meets the guy in incredible form; will he produce another upset and make it to the final eight?

.

Felix Auger Aliassime

Felix Auger-Aliassime completed a remarkable comeback to defeat Mikael Ymer in a three-hour and thirty-minute second round match, extending his unbeaten record to 14 matches.

The Canadian was 1-4 down in the second set and saved two break opportunities in the sixth game to avoid sliding 1-5 adrift before pulling off a miraculous comeback to win the match 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 7-6. (8-6).

Auger-Aliassime hit 11 aces, 45 winners, and converted 36 of 59 net points to defeat the Swedish qualifier.

The Canadian, who won three championships in a row in Florence, Antwerp, and Basel, is aiming for a fifth consecutive ATP 1000 quarterfinal appearance and his first in Paris.

The 22-year-old is currently 55-25 on the season, and his outstanding season has seen him win four trophies in five finals. Prior to this season, he had never won a title in any of the eight finals, but he finally did so in Rotterdam this year.

He'll be exhausted after the psychologically hard second-round win on Wednesday, but considering how he's been playing lately, he appears invincible.
