Forest was placed in the relegation zone last week after breaching the league's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) as ruled by an independent commission.

Forest stated last week that they were extremely disappointed with the decision and had seven days to appeal. Earlier this season, Everton had their points deduction for breaching Premier League financial rules reduced to six points from 10 following an appeal.

The Premier League regulations state that a club can't exceed a loss of £105 million ($133.6 million) over a three-year period. However, the rules are different for Forest, as they were in the second-tier Championship until 2022. Clubs in the Championship can incur a maximum loss of £39 million ($49.6 million) over three seasons, or £13 million ($16.6 million) per season. This means that their allowable losses over the last three seasons would add up to £61 million ($77.7 million).

Forest, who consulted lawyers before deciding to appeal, was disappointed with the ruling. They said the process has "harmed the trust and confidence we had in the Premier League." Forest had no further statement to make about the matter on Monday when they confirmed their appeal.

The Nottingham Forest statement read:
"Nottingham Forest can confirm that it has today lodged an appeal against the four-point sanction imposed by the commission in relation to the club's breach of the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR)." "The club will not be making any further statements at this time."
The Premier League also released a statement on Monday, which read:
"Nottingham Forest Football Club has appealed the decision of an independent commission to impose a four-point deduction on the club after its admission of a breach of the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules. "The club lodged the appeal to the chair of the judicial panel today, who will now appoint an appeal board to hear the case."

Nottingham Forest will play their first game after their point deductions and being in the relegation zone when they host Crystal Palace at their home ground, City Ground, on Saturday, March 30, 2024. The match is expected to be highly anticipated as the new Crystal Palace head coach will look to avoid consecutive defeats, while Forest will be keen to battle away from the relegation zone. We predict that Nottingham Forest will win the match, so you can bet on Nottingham Forest to win.
