Australian supermarket chain Woolworths is re-entering the MVNO market with a new 3G service over incumbent Telstra's network.

The company will use Telstra's extensive 850-MHz and 2100-MHz network reach to provide mobile services to customers, Business Spectatorreported.

Woolworths head of telecom Jason Hair told the publication that the company has a goal of providing a “straightforward, high quality and value-driven” mobile service under its MVNO brand.

Woolworths abandoned a previous foray into MVNO services in 2013 when its wholesale contract with Telstra rival Optus expired.

Telstra has been pursuing more wholesale contracts for its 3G network as it shifts investment focus to its 4G network. The operator also plans to open up its 4G network to wholesale access by June 2016, fulfiling demand from its MVNO customers.

Medion, the company which owns rival supermarket chain Aldi, also provides MVNO services over Telstra's network under the Aldi Mobile brand.
