Turkish operators Avea is using the opposite rhythms of the sun and wind to power remote telecom base stations on isolated Turkish hillsides. Unlike diesel powered base stations, earth-friendly powered stations need only annual maintenance.
The company\'s mid-sized Proven Energy wind turbines complement the Girasolar solar panels as the wind blows best when the sun shines least. This model is the answer to the problem of days in a row of clouds or windless, sunny days.
According to Proven Energy\'s press release, the hybrid system is used in many sectors with remote energy needs and has a quicker payback than solar or wind generated projects alone.
