HSBC customers targeted by cybercriminals

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority Tuesday issued a warning against emails that claim to be sent from HSBC and invite recipients to click a URL link to a fraudulent website.

Similar looking to HSBC's business Internet banking logon webpage, the fraudulent site contains a malicious program, said HKMA in a statement. HSBC also issued a statement on Tuesday to clarify that the bank never sent those emails to its customers and has no connection with the fraudulent website.

HSBC has already reported the case to the Hong Kong Police Force for investigation, said HKMA. Anyone who has provided his or her personal information to the website, or has conducted any financial transactions through the website should contact HSBC and local police, the HKMA added.
