Huawei and Greek mobile incumbent Cosmote have completed a successful field trial of a new wireless backhaul technology combining E-Band and traditional microwave frequency.
The companies tested Huawei's Super Dual Band microwave transmission technology, which bonds spectrum in the 6-GHz to 42-GHz bands together with the high-frequency E-band (71-GHz to 86-GHz) via special link aggregation technologies.
By taking advantage of the combined long distance benefit of traditional frequencies and the capacity advantage of E-Band spectrum, the system is capable of multi-Gigabit transmission for links exceeding 7km, Huawei said.
"Huawei has started microwave cooperation with the OTE Group, member of Deutsche Telekom Group, since 2009 and we are very honored to be Deutsche Telekom microwave transmission partner now,” commented Huawei president of microwave products Bob Chen.
“Deutsche Telekom and Huawei will jointly focus on potential microwave innovation technology looking forward to LTE-Evo and even 5G.”
