3Com Corporation has recently completed the installation of a Gigabit network on the nationwide branch network of Korean brokerage and investment company, Woori Investment & Securities (Woori I&S).

The project, designed to enhance the company's customer service and improve productivity and efficiency of its staff, called for the installation of 258 units of 3Com's H3C S3600 Series Ethernet Switch in Woori I&S branches across Korea.

Woori I&S, a subsidiary of Korea's banking and financial services conglomerate, the Woori Financial Group, is involved in the dealing, brokerage, underwriting and sales of investment trusts for domestic and international customers.

Prior to this network upgrade, Woori I&S wrestled with complex performance and network management issues resulting from a less than optimal build out of uplink switch hubs to support the company's growing customer base and transaction volumes.

With the S3600 switches, Woori I&S is able to connect multiple switches using 3Com's Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF) technology to create a distributed network fabric that functions like a single virtual switch. By creating a single logical platform, IRF enables better network management, improved performance and increased network expandability.

With completion of the project, Woori I&S is now backed by intelligent and redundant broadband branch office network, supporting unhampered and improved customer service operations.
