Nokia has lost yet another senior executive following the resignation of a key developer of its MeeGo platform.
Ari Jaaksi, second in command of platform development, announced his departure yesterday, just a fortnight after new CEO Stephen Elop took the helm and less than three months before the first MeeGo device is due to be unveiled.
He will quit within a fortnight after resigning for personal reasons, a spokeswoman told WSJ.com.
Jaaksi is the second Nokia executive to resign since the vendor sacked boss Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo and announced Elop as his replacement early last month.
Anssi Vanjoki, head of Nokia’s smartphone business and a contender for the CEO post, gave notice on the eve of the firm’s developer conference. Chairman and former CEO Jorma Ollila has also said he will step down.
The Linux-based MeeGo operating system is a combination of Nokia’s Maemo and Intel’s Moblin platforms and is being jointly developed with the US chip giant.
It is expected to be deployed on tablet devices and high-end smartphones. Nokia will continue to use its Symbian platform for smartphones.
