Mobile devices just got a whole lot more powerful. Earlier in February, Toshiba announced the launch of the TG01, the first mobile device based on Qualcomm\'s Snapdragon platform giving users the power of a laptop right in their pockets.
Expected to be commercially available during the second half of 2009, the heart of the TG01 is a powerful 1-GHz Scorpion microprocessor which enables the device to achieve near-laptop processing power. The TG01 also features large 4.1-inch WVGA display and runs on the Windows Mobile 6.1 platform. It also supports GPS and Bluetooth.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon platform empowers a new generation of Pocketable Computing Devices (PCDs) and Mobile Computing Devices (MCDs) that deliver real-time ubiquitous communication, high performance multimedia, location-aware content, full Internet browsing and productivity applications, all with the lowest levels of power consumption for all-day battery life.
So far, Snapdragon has been in great demand, with thirteen OEMs licensed committing to introduce Snapdragon products in the future. These OEMs include Acer, Foxconn, Asus and Quanta among others.
