About three in every four Singapore businesses expect their operations to be largely virtualized in two years, the latest VMware survey shows.

Conducted from September to October this year, the study covered 1,593 business and IT managers and decision makers who shared their perspectives on IT priorities in 2015.

Findings reveal that 74% of respondents expect to be 60-90% virtualized in two years. Also, businesses in the highly virtualized category are expected to almost triple from 15% to 44%.

In a related IDC whitepaper commissioned by VMware, the research firm said businesses in Singapore would be able to avoid $4.7 billion in costs between 2003–2020 as a result of virtualization of compute, storage and networking hardware, and leveraging a software-defined approach to managing IT.

Other key findings show that the top three IT priorities for 2015 as the reduction of enterprise costs (32%), providing IT security and data protection (28%) and disaster recovery and business continuity (26%).

Also, improving operational efficiency (26%) and optimizing resource utilization (25%) were identified as the key drivers for adopting software-defined data centers.
