Hong Kong's SmarTone has launched a new app to allow its customers to take advantage of multiple phone numbers on-demand.
Customers can pay an extra HK$5 ($0.64) per number per day, or HK$35 per number per month, and add up to four local numbers on one phone on top of the existing number.
SmarTone is also making the service available to users of rival mobile brands China Mobile, CSL, SUN Mobile, 1O1O and 3. The app is available for both Android and iOS.
SmarTone CEO Douglas Li said the app will be useful for purposes including buying or selling a flat, or any occasion where giving out a main number is inconvenient. Customers can use a number for as little as a single day.
“Each add-on number comes with a separate phone dialer in the app with users’ own personalised labeling to avoid confusion between different numbers being used, its own calling identity, SMS/MMS folders, phonebook and voicemail,” he said.
“Add-on Numbers can simplify the lives of many Hong Kong people who are carrying several phones with multiple mobile line subscriptions.”
In other Hong Kong telecom news, newly-lised broadband operator HKBN commenced trading on the main board of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong yesterday.
The operator recently completed an IPO expected to raise around HK$5.8 billion, and to value the company at around HK$9 billion.
